Position Description
Dr. Susan Goodman, Director of the Integrative Rheumatology and Orthopedics Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and her collaborator, Dr. Bella Mehta, are seeking a clinical research assistant. The successful applicant will be an integral member of the research team responsible for a variety of essential tasks. There is a great deal of patient contact as well as interaction with physicians of various specialties in the hospital. Opportunities for mentorship, authorship, and presentation at academic conferences exist for the right candidate.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying, screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent from patients for participation in research studies
  • Administering questionnaires and conducting interviews in person, electronically, by mail, or over phone
  • Coordinating patient visits and ensuring protocol compliance
  • Drawing blood
  • Obtaining specimens from the operating room
  • Processing biospecimens (phlebotomy training provided as needed)
  • Obtaining regulatory approvals including preparing, submitting, and maintaining study-related materials for the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Maintaining databases accurately
  • Preparing and submitting abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations
  • Assisting in grant documents/submissions
  • Creating and maintaining study-specific instruction manuals and administrative training documents
  • Scheduling and setting agendas for team meetings, and following up with meeting notes including action items
  • Providing training to new-hire replacement upon leaving position

Position Requirements

  • Completion of bachelor's degree in advance of start date 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to use tact, discretion, and sound judgment when dealing with confidential information
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and EndNote
  • Clinical research experience a plus

Time Commitment
Full-time, with a minimum commitment of two years
