Position Description
Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC is seeking to hire a Clinical Research Assistant (CRA) to work at the Scleroderma, Vasculitis & Myositis Center within the Rheumatology Division.
Responsibilities include:
- Identifying eligible patients
- Administering enrollment questionnaires
- Gathering a complete medical history
- Processing blood samples
- Entering data into an electronic database
- Assessing the safety and efficacy of investigational therapies in the treatment of these diseases
- Identifying eligible patients for such trials
- Coordinating patient visits
- Acting as a liaison between patients and physicians
- Devising workable strategies to boost enrollment for clinical trials and observational studies, which includes finding and/or developing innovative and effective advertisement tools
- Assisting with the writing of study protocols and grant applications to funding agencies, including the National Institute of Health, industry and foundations
- Interacting directly with nurses and physicians on a day to day basis to monitor the patients’ treatment
- Processing blood samples in the lab, which involves basic laboratory tasks such as centrifuging, pipetting and aliquoting
- Assisting with the development of patient education and outreach programs
- Training in Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, HIPAA and human subject research
- Participating in clinical case conferences and attending weekly seminars
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Strong writing and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Time Commitment
Full-time, with a minimum commitment of two years
