Position Description
Dr. Eamonn A. Vitt MD's practice is seeking an administrative assistant for his direct primary care medical practice focusing on HIV prevention & treatment and Gay Men’s health in Greenwich Village. The position will provide a great mentoring opportunity for those interested in the healthcare/mental health professions and will be an excellent resume builder for medical school/graduate school. 

This position is ideal for a graduating senior or recent college graduate who will be taking a gap year prior to attending/applying to medical school or other healthcare/mental health graduate school programs. The job will offer a chance to see the doctor-patient relationship up close, focusing on a historically medically underserved community, and an opportunity for mentoring. There is also the opportunity to study (MCAT/etc.) or work on professional school applications in the case of occasional downtime. Previous employees have all been successful in achieving admission to medical school.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Welcoming patients to the office and providing incredible customer service
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and discretion in accordance with professional expectations as well as HIPAA policy
  • Answering phone calls, emails, questions, etc. in a prompt and polite manner
  • Managing patient scheduling, onboarding new patients, and managing new patient inquiries
  • Handling payments accurately and responsibly
  • Entering patient information and scanning, updating, and filing medical records accurately
  • Communicating with patients, pharmacies, laboratories, and other offices under doctor’s guidance
  • Assisting patients with coordination of care and navigation of the healthcare bureaucracy
  • Coordinating laboratory specimens for send-out
  • Helping to maintain a clean, courteous, and professional working environment
  • Organizing and maintaining supplies
  • Assisting with appropriate clinical matters when necessary
  • Assisting with website content and possibly small research/writing projects
  • Assisting with phlebotomy (blood-drawing)

Position Requirements: 

  • Interest in gay men's health and HIV treatment and prevention
  • Recent undergraduate degree in any field
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a continuously-evolving environment while being a detail-oriented team player
  • Computer/IT proficiency a plus
  • Immunization against standard communicable diseases (including but not limited to COVID-19 and Influenza) before starting the job, and a willingness to follow COVID-19 infection control precautions

Time Commitment
Full-time, Mon. - Fri., with a one-year commitment

Compensation 
$21 per hour or more (depending on experience)
