The Training and Research Microsurgery Laboratory, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Columbia University, is seeking students to apply for a visitor/observer position in the lab for a 90-day period during the year.

About the lab: The world-renowned lab offers courses every week of the year in basic and advanced microvascular procedures to surgeons from 12 specialties and 70 countries. These courses emphasize vascular anastomoses, interpositional vein grafts, and nerve repairs on rat models. The laboratory is also working with clinicians from NYPH CUMC on conducting clinically relevant research projects.

Students will observe the teaching process of the course, learn about microvascular surgery, the handling and preparation of animals for surgery, and assist with daily lab operations. Students can communicate with incoming microsurgery students and learn about different surgical specialties and their lifestyles. Students will also learn medical terminology and the basics of surgery during this observership.
